One solution to the problem is localised, small scale distribution of hydrogen for domestic or vehicular use; home electrolysis. It is therefore highly likely that these 'distributed' hydrogen systems will play a crucial role in the establishment of a hydrogen economy.
ITM first pioneered in the localised production of hydrogen for automotive use with the release of the 'Green-box'. This unit provided an overnight fill of around 1kg of hydrogen at 75bar. Developing this concept, ITM have announced the development of, a 700bar, 1kg/day home refuelling unit. Designed in accordance with international hydrogen refuelling standards, 'HFill' will provide fuel at the pressure that is targeted by major OEMs for future hydrogen vehicles.
