ITM Power (AIM: ITM), the energy storage and clean fuel company, is pleased to announce that it has been granted full planning permission from Havering Borough Council to construct a Hydrogen Refuelling Station at The Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) site in Rainham. The Group currently has £10.46m of projects under contract and a further £5.71m of contracts in the final stages of negotiation.

Planning permission for the station was awarded within 8 weeks from submission and received no objections, demonstrating that it is becoming easier to gain permission for hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in the UK. The station will be deployed as part of the HyFive project and will open to the public in spring 2016.

The Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) is a world-class research, skills, education and business campus in East London. The CEME Campus is situated on the A13 in Rainham, close to both Canary Wharf and the M25. Part of a £400m regeneration programme in East London, CEME was established in 2003 to provide skills, create jobs and businesses that are revitalising London's industrial heartland.

HyFive is an ambitious £31 million European project involving leading motor manufacturers, hydrogen fuel suppliers, the Mayor of London's Office and energy consultancies to deploy fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen refuelling stations in three clusters across Europe to make hydrogen vehicles a viable choice for motorists in Europe.

ITM Power was chosen by the London Hydrogen Partnership to be the Hydrogen Refuelling Station partner for London. This resulted in an award of contract to supply three ITM Power electrolyser-based refuelling stations.

Dr Graham Cooley, CEO, ITM Power, commented: "ITM Power is pleased to announce the decision by Havering Borough Council to grant planning permission for a hydrogen refuelling station at CEME. This is a key step in rolling out refuelling infrastructure in East London."
